The government has dismissed from duty two policemen and two prison officers for allegedly being involved in poaching activities and abusing the power bestowed upon them.
They are Corporal Senga Nyembo and PC Issa Mtama of Oysterbay Police post, and seven others who were arrested on Sunday in Coast Region over illegal possession of 70 elephant tusks worth over 850m/-.
Meanwhile, two prison officers Ally Ramadhani who was the head of Kiteto Prison and his assistant Joseph Kimaro were fired for allowing government properties to be used in poaching activities.
The two policemen Corporal Nyembo (47) and PC Mtama (29) were dismissed from duty after appearing before a court martial and being found guilty of collaborating with civilians to transport elephant tusks from Kisarawe to Dar es Salaam.
Coast Regional Police Commander, Ulrich Mate confirmed the dismissal of the two policemen saying they have been fired for going contravening police regulations.
After their dismissal they were yesterday taken before the Resident Magistrate Court in Coast Region where they were joined in the case facing the other seven suspects and were all charged with two counts of being in possession of government trophies and economic sabotage.
The other accused are Prosper Maleto (36), a resident of Tandika Kilimahewa, Seif Kadro (35), Said Kadro Mdumuka (28) all residents of Panga la Muingereza Chole, Ramadhan Athuman (45) of Chanika , Mussa Mohamed Ally (35) of Kinondoni, Amir Bakar (33) and Hamad Salum (35) who was the driver of the vehicle transporting the national trophies.
