After five days, rescuers managed to save five poachers cornered by a pack of tigers in the national park in Sumatra - gives the BBC. Sixth men had been killed by predators.
Men set traps in the Gunung Leuser National Park, illegally hunting for deer. One of them caught a small tiger. The roar of a wounded animal pulled the other tigers that attacked poachers. One of them has been torn apart by predators, others managed to escape onto a tree.
Poachers have cell phones with them, so they were able to contact residents of a nearby village. They went to help them, but had to withdraw - the animals were all the time circling around the tree. Only the rescue team that arrived five days later was able to help them.
Rescuers took so long to reach them because the area of the national park is extremely difficult. They were reckoning with the fact that they will have to shoot the tigers, but they were able to chase them away. Rescued poachers were weak - food supplies that were with him, ran out after two days, then they drank only rainwater. Their lives are not in danger, however they will be prosecuted for poaching.
