The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is looking for any information on the illegal killing of a mountain lion in the Smiths Fork area near Cokeville.
The adult mountain lion carcass was discovered by recreationists in late July in a remote, abandoned out-building. It’s possible the lion was killed during the winter and stashed in the old building site.
The people who found the lion waited several days to report it to Game and Fish, and in the meantime the lion was moved. Taking a trophy game animal is illegal without an Interstate Game Tag. It also impedes the investigation.
Report any information about the poaching to Cokeville Game Warden Neil Hymas at 307- 279-3466, at the Stop Poaching Hotline number at 1-877- 943-3847 or at wgfd.wyo.gov.
Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $5,000 if the information leads to a conviction.
