Four governors from Isiolo, Marsabit, Samburu and Tharaka-Nithi counties want the government to come up with a legislation to criminalise cattle rustling.
The governors said cattle rustling can only be contained if the national government comes up with a policy to deal with the cattle rustling menace in the country.
Isiolo governor Godana Doyo said the approach will deter cattle rustling for economic gain. He said the menace has proved to be difficult to contain especially among the pastoral communities where it is rampant.
The other governors present are Ukur Jattani (Marsabit), Moses Lenolkulal (Samburu) and Samuel Ragwa (Tharaka-Nithi). The four were addressing the press at Bomen Hotel in Isiolo yesterday during a consultative meeting for development of USAID-Kenya county development strategy. Ukur said the governors will closely work with the security personell to make their counties safe.
He said counties prone to rustling include Isiolo, Samburu, Garrisa, Turkana, Wajir, Marsabit, Baringo, West Pokot, Tana River and Elgeyo Marakwet
