The police departments in Tana are still pursuing poachers who killed two KWS servicemen at Kipini area in Tana River County on Thursday. One poacher was killed in the incident.
The three were killed in separate fire fights with more than four poachers in the Kipini Conservancy. The operation to hunt down the poachers is being carried out jointly by the GSU, Rural Border Patrol Unit and KWS.
Tana Delta sub county commissioner Mike Kimoko told The Star yesterday they are determined to end the poaching menace. "Extensive security operation is on and our security agents are into the conservancy and adjacent forests to pursue the poachers" he said.
He said the police had early received reports that poachers were inside the conservancy a week earlier within the Kipini forests. "There were reports about the poachers and few days ago an elephant was killed in the area. As a result there was an operation going on," said he.
Kimoko called on the public to cooperate with the security department by providing information immediately they site people they suspect to be poachers. Recently, two elephants were killed in Kipini and Bura divisions of Tana Delta and Tana North Sub-counties.
