Kenya Wildlife Service rangers have shot dead a suspected poacher at Shimba-Hills National Park. The man was shot on Friday evening. The rangers recovered an elephant tusk. KWS Warden in charge of the park Mohammed Kheir said the suspect was armed with poisonous arrows.
"The rangers ordered the suspect and his colleague to surrender but they refused. One of them started attacking the rangers with arrows leading to the shooting," he said. Kheir said one escaped in to the thicket.
"His accomplice disappeared," he said Kheir said the suspect's body has not been identified as he had no identification documents. He said investigations have begun into cases of poaching in the area. Kheir said the rangers have been hunting down poachers in the park.
