According to a senior KWS officer in the region Francis Muchiri the officers acted from a tip from members of the public about the poachers in Idhasa Godhana ranch who were trying to kill an elephant
An AK 47 rifle and 27 rounds of ammunition were recovered from the scene of the incident.
The officers also recovered a national identity card belonging to one of the poachers who managed to escape.
They also recovered an axe suspected to be used in removing the elephant trunks.
Muchiri says the poacher was a Kenyan of Somali origin who had travelled a week earlier from Wajir County.
Two other suspects managed to escape the raid.
KWS officers and police officers have staged a manhunt for the other two suspects.
