Macedonian Ecological Society (MES) seized Balkan lynx on Stogovo mountain on the 5th of March 2012. After GPS collar was placed on its neck, the lynx was released in the nature. It is a healthy male individual probably from two to three years old, long 98 cm and weight 17 kg. The team of MES named the lynx Riste. Thanks to the GPS technology, Riste is already sending information about area he moves in. This information is of great scientific importance for understanding the biology and ecology of the Balkan lynx. MES is of the opinion that this happening could positively influence raising the public awareness for protection of this critically endangered animal, especially because poaching is still the greatest threat to its survival, not only in Macedonia but also in the region.
In 2010 in the National Park Mavrovo was seized and marked the lynx Marko, which was followed for almost two years.
