Forest officers arrested the fifth cop ArunBhasarkar, absconding for over a month in monitor lizard poaching case on Tuesday. He was remanded to four days of forest custody remand by the court.
Six people including five cops and a eatery owner were booked for monitor lizard's poaching on July 1. Traffic policemen Arun Bhasarkar, Suresh Satpute, Promod Dhongre, Vitthal Deshmukh and Gulab Poayam had brought two kg of monitor lizard's meat to Arun Mahadole's eatery for cooking.
Forest officials on getting information raided the eatery and arrested Mahadole with lizard's meat, however five cops had managed to flee. Four of them later surrendered before the forest authorities on August 1, but Bhasarkar was absconding. Forest officials acting on a tip-off raided Bhasarkar's hideout and nabbed him.
He was produced before the court, where he was remanded to four days of FCR. Other five accused in the case are under judicial custody since their arrest.
