The Tonk police are groping in the dark over the death of 17 peacocks in Nagarfort police station area.
Though the police have registered an FIR suspecting that the peacocks were poisoned by poachers, they haven't yet found any concrete evidences or any eyewitnesses in the case.
Station house officer (SHO), Nagarfort, Surendra Singh said: "We are investigating the matter to find eyewitnesses and evidences which are needed to be produced in the court."
Some villagers on Monday had spotted carcasses of as many as 17 peacocks. The villagers informed the police officials and the forest department. The police said that the postmortem of the carcasses was conducted.
The police was suspecting that the peacocks were fed grains laced with poison. The sources said that it is not the first time such an incident was reported in the state.
