Authorities arrested four fugitives in separate manhunt operations in Leyte and Samar provinces. The Regional Special Operations Group (RSOG) nabbed the suspects who will face charges for murder, rape and cattle rustling.
Police Regional Director Elmer Ragadio Soria said Arturo Mabag, 69, wanted for rape, was arrested on Wednesday evening at the outskirts of Barangay Canduyucan in San Sebastian, Samar.
Mabag has been in hiding for 16 years prior to his arrest.
On the same day, brothers Diosdado and Dioscoro Cañete who have standing warrants of arrest for murder with no bail were arrested at Barangay Caluctugan, Dagami, Leyte.
In Dulag town, also in Leyte, an arrest warrant for violation of anti-cattle rustling against Edwin Verterra, 44, was also implemented, leading to the arrest of the suspect in barangay Sungi.
Arrested fugitives were turned over to court of origin for proper disposition.
"We will continue the all-out campaign against fugitives as the arrest of wanted criminals will make Eastern Visayas safer," Soria said. (Leyte Samar Daily Express)
