A Rotorua man's been sentenced to 200 hours community services for paua poaching.
34-year-old Raymond Major previously pleaded guilty to charges relating to the illegal sale of paua.
An undercover Fisheries Officer had met with Major to make paua purchases - with all of the seafood undersize, and clearly indicating Major had breached the daily limit of 10 per person.
Brendon Mikkelsen from the Ministry of Fisheries says it's good to see the courts passing down strong sentences to those who choose to flout New Zealand's fisheries laws.
