Seven young men were arrested in Kwanobuhle after being found in possession of the body of a one-year-old kudu, Uitenhage police said on Monday.
Lieutenant Colonel Priscilla Naidu said police were doing routine patrols on Friday when they noticed the men carrying suspicious-looking bags.
After stopping and searching the men, they found a kudu that had recently been killed as well as pangas and other home-made implements used for slaughtering.
Naidoo said the young kudu may have been killed in Wincanton Estates near Port Elizabeth.
The men, aged between 16 and 21, were charged with being in possession of kudu meat without a valid permit.
They will appear in court on Tuesday.
