The Special Task Force,STF, saddled with the responsibility of maintaining peace in Plateau State has urged the people of Plateau Southern Senatorial District not to allow ethnic or religious sentiment to divide them.
The Commander of the STF, Major General Henry Ayoola disclosed this on Monday, during a peace parley with Youths and Ardos in Southern Plateau, when he toured Shendam, Mikang, Quan’apan, Langtang North, Langtang South, Wase and Kanam Local Government Areas respectively.
According to him “The Peace parley is as a result of the security challenges in the areas. But religion, ethnicity, tribe and other claims which are irrelevant have been used deliberately by our detractors to divide us, and we must collectively resist such from today”
Adding that, the root cause of the problem is on cattle rustling, gangsterism, deliberate destruction of farm lands, clash between farmers and cattle herdsmen and illegal possession of firearms, stressing that the security agencies are working tirelessly to combat the menace.
Dailypost had reported earlier that more than 500 cows were rustled, but the STF Commander said his men have recovered them and have handed them over to the owners.
The STF Commander further stated that, at the moment, there are ten cases of Cattle rustling before a Federal High Court in Jos and four of the perpetrators have been jailed.
Ayoola maintained that, the thieves come from different ethnic groups and different religions, promising that the STF will do everything within its power to protect lives and cattle in the Zone. More....
