A person was killed and three others injured in Rorya District, Mara Region, when an angry mob clashed with suspected cattle rustlers in an incident that left seven homesteads reduced to ashes. Tarime/Rorya Special Police Zone Commander, ACP Justus Kamugisha told reporters that the incident occurred in Buganjo Village at 11am and named the deceased as Abed Kelle (40), a suspected cattle rustler killed by villagers.
The RPC narrated that seven houses were set ablaze when the mob attacked as they were suspecting him of being involved in cattle rustling in the village. ACP Kamugisha said three people: Godfrey Orago, Ernest Asccela and Johannes masugulo, were injured during the event and are admitted to Tarime District Hospital.
He said two people were being held in connection with the incident and named them as Abel Mwinga (25) and Achuwaka Orika, both residents of Buganjo and once investigations are complete they will be taken to court.
"Other suspects are still at large. We will use whatever means possible to arrest them because taking the law into their own hands is prohibited and bearing in mind that no any other citizen is above the law," he stressed.
He said any law abiding citizen with information to the whereabouts of the said criminals should report to relevant authorities mainly police and added confidentiality will be maintained
