This year's Serengeti Marathon is being run under the theme "Let us be more radical to wildlife poaching." The event is being held for the second time next month by the Serengeti Sports Centre in Busega District, Simiyu Region.
The organisers have received support from the Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA) and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Tanzania Country Office.
Marathon coordinator Xavier Mhagama said on Monday
Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda will be the chief guest and he will flag off the race at Ndabaka area of the Serengeti National Park on December 4.
The race is scheduled to finish in the grounds of Serengeti Stop Over Lodge, situated just outside of the park's grounds, along the Mwanza-Musoma Highway. Mhagama said they expect to get more participants this year from both within the country and outside.
"We are working together with a number of Dar es Salaambased diplomatic missions to get foreign participants and we're extremely pleased with the turnout so far," he said.
The organisers want to see the annual event is held in the district where their sports centre in situated. This is also where the marathon's founder, Dr Titus Kamanda, comes from.
Mhagama said the Local Authorities Pension Fund (LAPF) and businessman Yusuf Manji have donated funds for the smooth running of the marathon.
