The Indian Foreign Minister Salman Kurshid has told the Indian Parliament that the Indian fishermen should be mindful about international maritime boundaries.
He has emphasized the importance of State Governments enlightening the Indian fishermen to refrain from violating the International maritime boundaries and poaching in the Sri Lankan territorial waters. He has said that Indian fishermen should be encouraged about refraining from poaching for their own safety. Mr. Kurshid has told the Indian Parliament Sri Lanka and India have agreed on steps to be taken against violations of International maritime boundaries. The Indian government has also assured Sri Lanka that its fishermen will not violate the Sri Lanka Maritime boundaries. He has pointed out that more than 500 Indian fishing vessels enter the Sri Lankan territory daily and taking away of fish resources have become a burden for Sri Lanka and the Indian fishermen should refrain from indulging in these activities.
