A new series targeting crime against wildlife has been launched, with episodes going online on the WWF’s YouYube channel every Sunday in September.
Zebras, elephants, rhinos, tigers and other animals are being increasingly slaughtered by poachers and criminal gangs armed with military-grade weapons, night-vision scopes and more. Wildlife crime destabilizes governments, economies and conservation gains.
The five-part series Stop Wildlife Crime: The Series gives viewers a big-picture look at wildlife crime and tells them what they can do to help. Each video features striking imagery and personal stories and facts from experts in the fields of government, security, forensics, and conservation.
Poaching is responsible for millions of animal deaths each year and makes criminals billions of dollars. And according to the Thin Green Line Foundation, 1000 rangers were killed in the last 10 years. Governments often lack resources to equip and train rangers. They usually earn very little and some go months without receiving their salary or seeing their families.
The first episode is shown above. Each new episode will be posted every Sunday in September at 7pm ET.
