23rd -24th June 2014. Katima Mulilo-Namibia
In the continued drive for the KAZA TFCA to achieve its objectives, KAZA TFCA partner countries, held a regional symposium in Menongue Angola, in October 2013, to discuss among others conservation challenges in the KAZA TFCA. The Partner Countries noted a general increase in wildlife related crimes in the KAZA TFCA. They further noted the different strategies and approaches that are employed in combating these wildlife crimes in the KAZA TFCA. Of particular interest to the partner countries was the participation of the national defence forces in anti-poaching activities in some of the partner countries. On issues of law enforcement challenges, KAZA Partner countries agreed on the need to improve trans boundary Law enforcement efforts, through sharing of experiences and improvement of regional collaboration.
KAZA TFCA Secretariat in partnership with WWF in Namibia will hold a KAZA wide law enforcement workshop in Katima Mulilo, Namibia. The objective of this workshop is to bring together KAZA TFCA wildlife law enforcement authorities and experts, to develop a KAZA TFCA law enforcement strategy that will establish/strengthen intelligence networks on cross border collaboration on wildlife crimes. The workshop will also provide the partner countries with an opportunity to identify areas of law enforcement capacity needs which will develop the basis of resource mobilization for anti-poaching activities in the KAZA TFCA.
