Fishing grounds in Solevu, Bua, continue to be attacked by poachers as villagers watch helplessly.
This was among other issues raised at the district's monthly meeting held at Nawaido Village on Friday.
According to Setevano Vuniwaqa the number of poachers was of grave concern.
Mr Vuniwaqa said villagers would watch helplessly as boats entered their fishing grounds and made away with fish and other marine resources belonging to them.
He said there were a few villages in the district that had their own marine protected areas and these were the most affected by the illegal acts carried out by poachers.
Mr Vuniwaqa said it was high time something was done to address the matter.
He asked the Fisheries Department during the meeting to assist in anyway they could to stop illegal poaching in the district.
Department representative Tomasi Cama said there was no funding for such assistance. However, he advised members to move a motion to the Bua Provincial Council for the purchase of a patrol boat.
