Three students of Emirates International School – Meadows, Olivia, 4GR, Sofiya, 4GR, and Joanna, 4 NR, would like to thank the many students, teachers and parents of their school as well as neighbours in The Meadows and The Greens who made a contribution to help save African Elephants.
The article in 7DAYS (April 29) about tonnes of seized ivory being crushed in Dubai gave them the motivation to start researching the topic and creating a poster to raise awareness in their community and later with help of a power point presentation during assembly at school which gave them a powerful feedback.
A presentation in front of Eco Inspectors gave them another boost as they were told that a project like theirs to help vulnerable species can have a positive impact on the Eco Rating of the school, and it did as their school has been awarded the Green Flag recently.
The well received week-long charity sale at school was a success, a lot more students got involved and together they collected Dhs4,162. As they reached the funds necessary to become ‘Partners in Conservation’ with WWF, they also gained a direct line to WWF’s HQ in Washington, DC, and will receive a ‘partner’s toolkit’ to continue raising awareness for the importance of habitats.
