Travel to the island of Sumatra and help take care of elephants!
The volunteers in this project will assist the conservation efforts of the Elephant Conservation Centre in Way Kambas National Park. Volunteers will help local mahouts take care of the elephants, from bathing or showering and feeding to health checking and grassing. One local mahout will be accompanied by two volunteers in doing their daily chores. The project takes place in Lampung, on the southern tip of the island of Sumatra. Presently, there are about 65 tamed elephants being taken care of by the conservation center, while 200 elephants live wildly in the forest. During their free time, volunteers may go on a forest safari with a local mahout with a camp fire, fishing, as well as swimming in the middle of the forest.
